Ante la escasez de agua potable por la baja histórica del embalse Paso Severino, el gobierno autorizó mezclar agua del Río de La Plata, que contiene sodio y cloruros, para abastecer a los hogares de Montevideo y zonas aledañas. La calidad del líquido deteriora los electrodomésticos y las cañerías.
